Hi Elena,

I came across your beautiful website and now I am in love with Tuscany just by reading your blog!

I was wondering  if you could help me with my stay in Tuscany.

My husband and I along with my 10 month old baby will be travelling across France and Italy in September. Unfortunately I have only 3.5 days / 4 nights in Florence. Travelling from Venice by train into SNM Firenze.

After reading your blog I want to move my base either to Chianti or Siena. Could you please help me out with an itinerary. I really want to see the countryside such as Val d’Orcia, Chianti, San Gimignano, Montepulciano and Florence.

In Florence I just want to see the highlights such as the Uffizi Gallery, Boboli Gardens and the Santa Maria Novella Church and the famous leather markets.

We will be renting a car from Florence as my husband really wants to drive.

As one of the days is Sunday, is that going to be an issue in terms of sight seeing?

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Thanks a lot for contacting me and for your nice words

Both Chianti and Siena are great as a base, but considering you are visiting Florence’s many sights, you may opt for Chianti, that is a great location right in between Florence and Siena. Chianti is one of the most beautiful rural areas of Tuscany; scenic landscape, green hills, cypress tress, hill top towns, great food and wine.

This post of mine speaks about Chianti as a base to explore Tuscany. While in Chianti you can move with the car and start exploring some of Tuscany’s best destinations;  in the article you have a list of the best day trips to make from there, like Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Montepulciano and the wonderful and spectacular Val d’Orcia south of Siena.

The Val d’Orcia is about 1 hour and half from Chianti, if it’s a long time for you, you may considering spending one night there. Driving through Tuscany is a delight!

As for the visit of Florence, here is a mini-guide to the city’s top sights, like the Uffizi. Most museums and attractions of Florence are open on Sundays, however check here

Do not hesitate to contact me again for any other suggestion,

Ciao from Florence,
