Dear Elena,
i am going to Tuscany in the end of the June wih my mom, sister and my baby girl for 10 days We are going to take a car in Bologna airport and head for Lucca because we decided to choose this town as a base.
Do you think it is a good place for beach holiday as well as starting point to discover some other cities in Tuscany? maybe be you would recommend some other seaside town? We would like to spend time mainly by the sea, because of the little baby, not to bother her with long trips. As for the sea, is it warm enough in the end of the June for swimming?).
Of course we are going to take some picturesque routes by car! Please recommend some places to see and some things to do for us taking into account our little passenger.

You will have a great time here in Tuscany
Lucca is a good base, especially to explore the northern part of Tuscany. The nearest beach destination is Viareggio in Versilia, at about half an hour driving. The end of June is warm enough to swim and it’s the best month to stay at the seaside with little children. Viareggio has long sandy beaches and is well equipped with bathing establishments and services for the little ones.
If it’s ok for you to travel half an hour to reach the seaside, Lucca can be a good starting point also to explore some other cities in Tuscany, like Pisa (25 minutes away), Florence (1 hour), Volterra and San Gimignano (1 hour and half each), the Chianti area (1 hour and half). Siena is instead at 1 hour and 45 minutes distance.
Here is a list of the must see attractions in Tuscany, so you may have an idea on what you most like to see.
There are many scenic dives through Tuscany, as the Via Chiantigiana running from Florence to Siena through Chianti.
The Val d’Orcia south of Siena is a stunning area to visit though I think too far away, over 2 hours…
Other seaside towns I would recommend are in the southern part of Tuscany, so a bit far from the classic attractions to visit in Tuscany, any way take a look here, while here is a thread on the forum about the best place in Tuscany with kids and beaches and historical cites nearby.
