First timers to tuscany with children ages 8-11
It s our first time to italy and we want to immerse in the culture and stay 3 weeks in a private home/villa with a pool. During the 3 weeks we’d like to take day/overnight trips to sienna, florence, rome, San Gimignano ,pisa , and any other great towns that you might suggest. We thought Chianti or umbria would be good choice for the base villa/home but really …never being there, we don’t know. I’ll assume we’ll have a car….So we are game for anything. We love ,food and art ,hiking, people watching, hanging out in the country. We’d really like to get to know the culture and hang out making great memories with our family. 3 kids ages 8-10

You say 3 weeks in a private home/villa with a pool and from there take day/overnight trips across the region. You may even decide to split your stay and choose 2 different locations to stay so to cover more sights to see, or definitely pass a night in the most distant destinations from your villa.
A location that is central in Tuscany and thus makes a proper base to make explorations, is the Chianti wine area, located between Siena and Florence. Here the countryside is very scenic and relaxing, while all major destinations to visit in Tuscany will be easily and quickly reached with a car. Among the best places to get to I recommend San Gimignano, Volterra, Pisa, Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Cortona, and many more you can find here, together with useful info on using Chianti as your home.
Chianti makes the ideal spot for food and art, hiking, people, hanging out in the country…together with many more beautiful areas of Tuscany as in the case of Val d’Orcia, the dreaming countryside south of Siena. Montalcino, Pienza, Bagno Vignoni, and Montepulciano are amazing hill towns to be found there and that you may even choose in case you will make it for a second base. Chianti or Val d’Orcia is the name of a blog’s post where you can read the differences between these two fantastic locations in Tuscany.
