Tuscany Villages

Anonimo asked 9 anni ago
Hi Elena
First please let me say that your blog on Tuscany is amazing, with a wealth of information I could not find in any other websites!
I am planning on taking my wife on a surprise holiday to Tuscany next June. I would like to spend 4 or 5 days visiting some of the villages cannot make my mind up which ones to visit as all of them are gorgeous and look amazing! If it helps, my wife always refers to Cortona and “Under the Tuscan Sun” film so I suppose that’s the kind of village she would like visiting.
I have also heard about San Gimignano. Any suggestions you could give me of the villages I could visit would be great. I suppose that the best to way to go from village to village would be in a hired car?
If so, could you suggest a route I could do? I have never been to the Tuscany region so I would not know.
I look forward to your reply, and again, would very much appreciate your suggestions.
Thank you Regards Paul

Hello Paul,
Thanks a lot for contacting me! I’m happy to hear you like my blog! and I’m happy to give some advice for your trip to Tuscany

Actually Tuscany is full of beautiful hill top towns! I’ve dedicated 2 blog posts to the most beautiful and scenic Tuscan villages, part I and part II, just have a look. I do love San Gimignano, Pienza, Volterra, but the list is very long!

Cortona is among them, it’s very charming and offers one of the best panoramas in all of Tuscany! Cortona is fantastic in itself but is also a good base to explore the best of Tuscany and Umbria.

San Gimignano is really a beautiful hill town, very famous for its wonderful and scenic medieval towers, I suggest a visit there. You can read about San Gimignano’s Top Attractions. I’ve included San Gimignano on the list of the day trips to make from Cortona.

The best way to go from village to village is in a hired car, driving through the curvy roads amid the beautiful Tuscan countryside is a real pleasure!. As for the route have a look at these day trips to make from Cortona. In addition, I’ve just recently published a blog post on the most scenic drives in Tuscany and I show them on the map. :- )

for everything else do contact me again,

Ciao from Florence,
Elena
