Hello!
I love your site! I just stumbled upon it while researching for our upcoming trip to Italy. My husband and I are coming this Friday. We will be spending time in Amalfi, Rome and driving through Tuscany.
I love your site! I just stumbled upon it while researching for our upcoming trip to Italy. My husband and I are coming this Friday. We will be spending time in Amalfi, Rome and driving through Tuscany.
I’m trying to plan the Tuscany part of my trip. We are picking up a car in Rome and driving to our hotel which is in Cortona.
We want to stop and see as many of the towns as we can on the drive.
We also have all day Saturday to drive around before we fly out on Sunday.
Do you have any suggestions / recommendations?? Any are greatly appreciated.

Cortona is wonderful, I’ve been there many times! Here is also an article of my blog dedicated to Cortona if you’d like to have a look.
On your way from Rome to Cortona, you may visit:
-Orte, beautiful and scenic hill town
-Civita di Bagnoregio, a surreal and fantastic place! In my opinion one of the most striking, beautiful, and peculiar villages of all Italy! In fact I speak of it here where i do a list of the most beautiful villages of Italy.
-Orvieto, on top of an outcrop, this hill town is simply stunning! Its Duomo is one of the most beautiful in Italy.
While in Cortona, I suggest you visit Siena, so famous for its Palio race, Florence, and Arezzo. All are beautiful! Siena is a must.
Other great destinations are:
–Montepulciano (that you can also visit on your way from Rome), Pienza, Bagno Vignoni (so enchanting!) and all the other beautiful villages of the Val d’Orcia, probably the most beautiful area of all Tuscany, located south of Siena.
– The Lake Trasimeno and its characteristic villages facing the lake, like Passignano sul Trasimeno and Castiglione del Lago. Spending a day at the lake would be a great idea. Here you will also enjoy great food and enchanting vistas.
– The Crete Senesi: West Cortona you are right in the land known with the name of Crete Senesi for their characteristic and suggestive lunar landscape, her rise many nice hill villages, while I also suggest you visit the majestic and Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore, full of surprises.
– In Umbria you may also visit Spello, Todi, and Spoleto and its wonderful Duomo.
