Siena Restaurants Recommendations

Hi Elena,
I am planning a few days in Tuscany this summer. I’m taking a few people to the Palio on August 16, and I’ve been recommended a Contralto dinner on the 15th. I will have a car, so where would you recommend we go on the 14 & 15 daytime? Where for dinner on the 14 & 16, after the Palio? Then we are going to Florence for two days, where to have dinner on the 17th?
Thank you for any suggestions and have a wonderful summer. All best, wishes, Chris Rose.

Ciao Chris,
Sounds like you will have a fantastic and exciting summer The Palio is an amazing event!
Among the many great day tours you can take from Siena, I would visit Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, and possibly Volterra on one day, and the Val d’Orcia on your second day.
Monteriggioni is an incredible sight, a tiny ancient village almost remained intact from the Middle Ages. San Gimignano is one of the most beautiful hill towns of Italy, made unique by its quaint towers. If you have time you can also visit Volterra, but you might wll take your time slowly and visit only Monteriggioni and San Gimignano at a slow pace
The other day head south of Siena in the splendid countryside of the Val d’Orcia and there stop to visit some of the extraordinary villages there, particularly Montalcino, Pienza, and Montepulciano.
As for your dinners on the 14 & 16, after the Palio, I recommend Ristorante La Taverna di San Giuseppe and Ristorante Bagoga, among the best places to eat in Siena. Do book your dinner well in advance because of the Palio!
Also in Florence, you’ll be spoilt for choices! Here is my personal list of the best Florentine restaurants
I’m here for any other suggestion needed!
Thanks for getting in touch
