Hello! Siena is simply amazing, great choice! You will love it Among the many day trips you can do from Siena using public transportation, I would recommend Florence, that you can easily reach either by bus or train.
Bus is probably better as there are direct buses leaving from Siena’s center and dropping you off right in Florence , check here for bus timetables, though only in Italian it’s easy to read.
The train station of Siena is in fact not in the town’s center so you need to get to it by taking a bus.
Other great trips I recommend are to San Gimignano, the famous village with medieval towers, and to Montalcino, the beautiful hill town renowned for the production of the prestigious Brunnello di Montalcino red wine.
Both towns, as well as many other hill villages in the province of Siena, can be reached by bus, you can check for all bus schedules here.
Of course there are many more destinations, like Arezzo, Montepulciano, Pienza…
Feel free to post for any other question,
Happy planning!
