Assisi and Tuscany

Dear Elena, I’m looking to take my mom on a mother-daughter trip starting in Rome and ending in Milano. I’d love to take her to Assisi and than to Tuscany region. What’s our best route? Since my mom is 75 years young, and she needs to take her time to walk and rest thru car trips, would you say 10-12 days would be enough ?

Ciao,
Many thanks for contacting me. I’m glad to help you on this special trip with your mother
10-12 days are definitely enough. The fastest way from Rome to Assisi takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes and you can make some lovely stops on the way at Orte, Spoleto, and Spello, all beautiful!
From Assisi, I would pass from Perugia and reach the beautiful Cortona in Tuscany, that can be one of your first places to base in Tuscany. From Cortona there are many day trips you might take. Then head west to enter the wonderful Val d’Orcia region, with villages and landscapes all to explore, and then go north to reach Siena, and then San Gimignano and the Chianti region that can be your other base in Tuscany.
Towards the end of your trip reach Florence, where you can drop the car off and stay a couple of days before heading on to Milan.
In addition, you may also have a look at this road trip from Rome to Tuscany; though challenging, it can give you some ideas on the destinations to visit on your way.
Do not hesitate to contact me again,
Enjoy planning your Italian stay,
Elena
