Hi Elena ..great blog….we are off to Florence/Tuscany from Oct 2 to Nov 14. Our first month is booked in an apartment in Florence in Piazza Goldoni.
Our final two weeks are wide open and we are a little confused with the many choices of hill towns and how to visit them. What would you recommend? Is a car better or should we use trains. Is a car not great for Cinque Terre? Thanks in advance

thanks a lot for getting in touch.
While in Florence you can make some great day trips through Tuscany using only public transportation, all info here.
The best way to reach the Cinque Terre is by train from Florence and maybe stay a night there.
For your final two weeks in Tuscany I recommend renting a car to explore the region. You may consider staying some days in Cortona and from there visit the lovely hills towns of both Tuscany and Umbria.
Then you may go south of the region, before in the fantastic Val d’Orcia region, famous for its amazing hill towns, its thermal waters, and unique landscape. And since you have time, you might also consider visiting the wonderful area of Pitigliano, Sorano, and Sovana.
You can find more suggestions on what to visit in this two weeks itinerary of Tuscany,
I remain at your disposal,
Enjoy your holiday,
